Even though they spelled Kochalka wrong, it’s super cool to see someone enjoying my Glorkian Warrior game.

"James Kochalka is an adorable spazz" - marinaomi (on intsagram).
I’m adorable!  I’m adorable!  She said I’m adorable!  (I should probably use that quote on a future book jacket.)  I’m so glad it was “adorable” and not “unbearable”.
ProTip:  Fungus: the Unbearable Rot of Being makes for excellent theatre when read aloud with a friend, and becomes doubly hilarious.

Elf Cat episode 11.  Elf Cat can do ANYTHING!

Here’s my haul from SPX.  It might look like a lot, but it’s not even half as much as I probably should have picked up.
The only one I’ve read so far was Astral Birth Canal, which was really good.  I was going to read more on the plane but then I fell asleep.  Really pumped for Fight Frogs and Copra and New Comics Four and Bug Boys especially, but also everything else too.
I was able to bring home a copy of my own book FUNGUS, but Johnny Boo Zooms to the Moon totally sold out so I couldn’t even grab a copy for myself.  (It wasn’t actually possible to sell out of FUNGUS because we had the entire print run with us thanks to Big Planet Comics being nearby.)
It was so fun premiering two brand new books at the same time.  Lots of kids picked up Johnny Boo, lots of grown-ups bought Fungus.  (And plenty of grown-ups bought both, actually!)

another spx this year.
i sat alone for the first time (in my 5 years of attending) which sucked. being hung over from friday didnt help.
i was wearing my bullet club shirt and a bunch of strangers came up and too sweet-ed me which was awesome. next year im going to try to double that by wearing a throwback NWO shirt.
i skipped the ignatz to watch ROH on the hotel tv and snuck down to the catered food area early to eat a bunch of mini cheeseburgers before anyone else was around. i went to bed early saturday and missed the party.
i saw a bunch of important bloggers, reviewers, and comic academics skip over my table and refuse my eye contact.
i barely sold any comics and was really anti-social most the time.
see you next year! (probably not)

Pat, I enjoyed talking to you about mini-cheeseburgers at SPX and I would’ve loved to have hung out even more. I like you and I like your comics.

When asked to sketch in someone’s convention sketchbook, I sometimes like to make an addition to another artist’s earlier sketch.  This weekend at SPX I drew one of my FUNGUS dudes onto a sketch by Farel Dalrymple.

This guy gave a donut at SPX in trade for a Fungus sketch.  I think it was this guy.

Simon Hanselmann married comics last night at SPX. Then he cut the wedding cake with his bare hands, just grabbing chunks and slapping it onto plates, sending the hotel staff into a tizzy.

The cake was delicious.

I drew Glorkian Warrior on top of raina telgemeier’s head in someone’s sketchbook at SPX today.

Here’s a beet juice painting of one of my Fungus guys.  I boiled the beet juice down a little too thick, so it got pretty syrupy.  It took about a week to dry because of all the sugar, I think.
